GETTING TO AGAMUI

Simeulue (SMG) is an hour flight away from the International airport of Kualanamu MEDAN (KNO). Flights are regularly scheduled and operated by Wings or Susi Air.

Upon arrival in Simeulue you will be greeted and welcomed by one of AGAMUI'S friendly faces. They journey to AGAMUI will roughly take 2,5 hours by car. The scenic route will lead you along the tropical coastline, winding through lush simeuluean jungle, passing through small villages and over pristine mountains.

IS A VISA REQUIRED?

Indonesia can be entered by VOA (Visa On Arrival) which will allow you to stay for up to 30 days. If you want to stay longer we recommend you apply for an E. VOA online through the official government website before entering Indonesia. This Visa can be extended online for an extra 30 days. Please ensure your passport has more than 6 months validity before arriving in Indonesia.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL?

The best time to visit AGAMUI is during the dry season, which typically runs from February to October. During this period the waves are consistent and the weather is generally sunny with less rainfall.

ARE THERE SURFBOARD FEES ON THE FLIGHT FROM MEDAN TO SIMEULUE?

WINGS AIR charges a fee of 1,000,000 IDR ($100 AUD)per board ~ each way and they do check how many boards you are carrying at both Airports. Please insure that you bring enough money in Indonesian Rupiah for both flights. Due to the rise in cost overland board transportation can be arranged at a more affordable cost. MISSED/DELAYED OR CANCELLED FLIGHTS


At AGAMUI we are in contact with the Airport on Simeulue and will be informed of any such occurrences. We also recommend having WHATS APP and the AGAMUI number saved to it. So you can contact us directly if you have missed a flight, have a delay or cancellation. If any of the above should occur we will endeavor to help our guests as best we can. Obviously AGAMUI is a resort and takes no responsibility for any Airline related issues.

WHAT HAPPENS IF OUR LUGGAGE/BOARDS DON'T ARRIVE?

In the off chance that this should happen we will work with the airline to locate and have your bags or boards returned to you at AGAMUI. A trick Kati and Joel have used traveling through Indonesia is to put a board, fins and leg rope in each other’s board bags just in case and always keep clothes, toiletries in a separate bag !! Definitely worth doing. AGAMUI also has a small selection of boards to make sure you can still get in the water.

ARE NON~ SURFERS WELCOME AT AGAMUI?

IS IT NECESSARY TO BRING MY OWN SURF EQUIPMENT?

While we provide a limited number of surfboard rentals, bringing your own equipment is essential. We have storage facilities available for guests to keep their personal surf gear.

IS THERE DING/BOARD REPAIR AT AGAMUI?

Due to our remote location sourcing materials for surf board repairs can be difficult, so we suggest guests bring a small 'repair kit' with them containing solar resin (epoxy and PU sutitable) sand paper and some small squares of cloth and anything else you may need.

ARE THERE OTHER ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE BESIDES SURFING?

AGAMUI offers a range of exciting activities to enhance your experience on Simeulue. You can explore the vibrant underwater world through snorkeling or diving, go fishing to catch your own dinner, or simply relax on the pristine beaches. Day trips to outer islands with hidden bays and waves can be arranged.

IS TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIRED?

Travel insurance and proof thereof is mandatory before embarking on your surf adventure. Your insurance should cover COVID related issues, Medical Evacuation, costs incurred due to delayed/cancelled or missed flights, compensation for lost holiday days/nights due to unforeseen circumstances or emergencies, natural disasters.

IS SIMEULUE PRONE TO MALARIA AND DENGUE FEVER?

No, Simeulue Island is considered a low-risk area for malaria and dengue fever. The island has a relatively low mosquito population, and there have been no reported cases of malaria or dengue fever in recent years. However, it is always advisable to take necessary precautions such as using mosquito repellent and wearing protective clothing to minimize any potential risks.

ARE THERE ANY VACCINATIONS REQUIRED?

While there are no specific vaccinations required to visit Simeulue, we recommended to consult with your healthcare provider or travel clinic for personalized advice based on your medical history and current health status.

ARE MEDICAL FACILITIES AVAILABLE?

The nearest hospital to AGAMUI where minor injuries can be treated is in Kampung Air an hour drive away. More complex injuries or illnesses have to be treated in one of Medan's international hospitals. Having international travel insurance to cover for and assist with emergencies is essential!

MONEY WITHDRAWAL/ ATM'S

The best place to withdraw or exchange money is Medan airport. ATM'S on Simeulue decline international credit cards and we therefore recommend withdrawing a sufficient amount of cash before coming to the island.


CAN I USE MY CREDIT CARD?

We do not take credit card payment at AGAMUI and there is nowhere on the island that excepts any payment or cash withdrawals using international cards. We suggest you bring between $300 - $400 AUD worth of Indonesian Rupiah with you to pay tabs, board fees etc . It’s also easier to exchange the money at home prior to arrival in Indonesia or at Medan airport!

DRESSING ON SIMEULUE

As Simeulue is a majority Muslim island dressing moderately is required. Outside of AGAMUI this means shirts should be worn by men (no riding around shirtless on motorbikes for example) and women should wear clothes covering their shoulders and knees such as shirts, long skirts, day dresses or sarongs when outside of AGAMUI.

Inside the Sanctuary it is up to you but outside of AGAMUI we appreciate and respect the local culture and its beliefs and hope our guests do also.



IS THERE A EVACUATION PLAN IN CASE OF AN EARTHQUAKE OR TSUNAMI?

Yes there is, if there is a large earthquake AGAMUI has a muster point next to the restaurant, there are warning sirens nearby and a national SMS alert system if a tsunami warning is issued. From there you will be escorted to our high ground if it is deemed necessary. AGAMUI has a mountain inside it’s boundaries and there is direct access to the top which is more than 70m above sea level.
